  • How do I cast a push-button spincast combo?

Press and hold the button to free the line. Look behind you, bring the rod back, sweep it forward, and release the button as the tip points at your target. Crank the handle to re-engage and start reeling. Begin with the practice plug and short lobs. One rule: don't press the button mid-fight or while cranking.

  • How do I replace the line on a spincast reel?

Unscrew the front cone (your reel manual shows how), strip off the old line, and thread the new line through the cone before tying it to the spool with an arbor knot. Reinstall the cone and reel the line on with a little tension, stopping a bit below the spool rim. Stick with the line type and size the reel calls for, and cut out anything kinked or frayed rather than winding it back in.

    1. Remove the front cone and take off the old line.
    2. Thread the new line through the cone and tie it to the spool using an arbor knot.
    3. Reinstall the cone and reel in the new line while keeping light tension.
    4. Stop about 1/8" below the spool edge to avoid overfilling and tangles.
    5. Use the line size recommended for your reel and replace any damaged or frayed line.

Tip: Keep light tension on the line as you spool it to help ensure it winds evenly.

  • How do I adjust the drag on a spincast reel?

Find the drag dial or star on your reel and turn it toward plus for more resistance, minus for less. Test by pulling line straight off the reel. Start light: you want enough to set the hook and steer the fish, not a locked spool that snaps 6-pound line or straightens a small hook.

  • Why will my spincast reel not cast or retrieve line?

Work through it front to back. Is there enough line on the spool, and is it the right size for the reel? Pop the cone off and look for line wrapped behind the spinnerhead, a chewed-up section, or a pickup pin that isn't engaging. Check that the button springs back and the cone isn't cranked down too tight. Replace bad line instead of dragging it through the works, and if a spring or pin is broken, contact us.
